Backyard guide

Can bumper cars go on grass? Yes, here is how we do it in your backyard

Most bumper car rentals turn you away if you do not have a big slab of concrete. Around here almost everybody has a lawn, so we bring a grass-ready floor with us.

The short version

  • Yes, our bumper cars run on grass. Our grass-ready floor comes at no extra cost.
  • Your lawn needs to be level, mowed, and dry. No slopes, gravel, sand, or standing water.
  • Plan about 26 by 26 feet of clear space and an outlet within 100 feet on its own circuit.
  • Two hours of nonstop riding with fresh cars all party, from $375.

The short answer

Ride-on bumper cars do not run well on bare grass. The small wheels sink, drag, and spin out, and the cars bog down long before the battery is done. That is why most rental companies say concrete only.

We fixed it. We bring our own floor and set it under the arena. The cars roll smooth, not on dirt, so your lawn party runs just like a driveway party. The floor is included free with the Carolina Bumper Zone.

Why our floor works

It is built for heavy use, so a few toddlers in battery cars are nothing to it. It stays flat and in place and gives the wheels grip without being slick.

They also protect your yard. The weight of the cars and kids spreads out instead of rutting the turf in one spot.

  • Smooth, even rolling surface for the cars
  • Heavy enough to stay put without sliding
  • Spreads the load so the lawn does not get rutted
  • Same arena, same cars, same rules as on concrete

Will my yard work?

Walk your yard with this list. If you can say yes to all of it, the bumper cars can come to your backyard.

Grass vs concrete: which is better?

Both work the same once the floor is down. Grass is cooler under the arena on a hot South Carolina afternoon and it puts the party right where your shade, chairs, and grill already are. A driveway is quicker to set up and fine if it is shaded.

Pick the spot where parents can sit and watch. The cars are remote controlled, and one adult per remote makes the whole thing smooth.

What it costs

The floor does not change the price. Grass and concrete are the same rate.

The night before and morning of

A few small things make setup quick and keep the floor dry underneath.

  • Mow the setup spot the day before
  • Turn off the sprinklers that morning
  • Pick up sticks, toys, and pet messes
  • Keep the dogs inside while we unload
  • Text us a photo of the spot if you are unsure about slope

What about rain?

The cars cannot run wet. If heavy rain soaks the ground or storms roll in, we move your date. If the lawn is soggy on party day but the driveway is dry, we can often set up there instead. Call or text and we will figure it out together.

Questions we get on this

Can bumper cars go on grass?
Ours can. We bring a grass-ready floor so the cars roll smooth on a level, mowed, dry lawn, at no extra cost.
Do you charge extra for setting up bumper cars on grass?
No. The mat floor is included. Grass and concrete are the same price, from $375 for two hours.
Will bumper cars damage my lawn?
The floor spreads the weight out so the cars never touch the grass. Like any party, the spot may look pressed for a day or two.
How much space do I need for bumper cars in my backyard?
About 26 by 26 feet of clear, level ground for the 15.7 foot arena and its buffer, plus an outlet within 100 feet.
Can bumper cars go on a sloped yard?
No. The floor and cars need level ground. If you are not sure, text us a photo and we will tell you straight.
What ages are the bumper cars for?
The manufacturer rates the cars for 18 months to 5 years. Every car has a five-point harness and a remote so an adult can steer or stop it.
